WHY?
The Same-Sex Hand-Holding Initiative (#SSHHI) was launched by Pride House International on 14 August 2013. The campaign is simple: Pride House International is calling on everyone present in Sochi – athletes, staff, media, officials, spectators, sponsors, vendors, and fans – to take every opportunity to hold hands with a person of the same sex.To make as many people as possible who’ll be present in Sochi aware of #SSHHI, Pride House International has launched a photo blog at holdhandsinsochi.tumblr.com. There, anyone can post a photo showing them holding hands with a person of the same sex (or not… we don’t discriminate) as a sign of solidarity with the athletes, officials, vendors, media, and spectators who will be holding hands throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi
WHEN?
On Feb 7th 2014 as part of the Pride House Manchester opening event we want to form a circle of people holding hands around the Village. This will send a clear message of support for LGBT Russia as well as a clear message of unity within our own community. To do this we need you.. please join us at Taurus Bar from 7pm and wear your winter woolies as its going to be chilly plus it suits our Apres Ski theme.
WHERE?
Straight after the opening procession we shall be urging ever one to hold hands with a member of the same sex in a ring of unity around The Village. Stewards will be on hand to ensure that the route is followed and that everyone knows when to start.
This is a massive chance to show the media just how serious our community takes gay rights and how strongly we feel about homophobia.
During the opening events on the 7th of Feb there will be a space for your to have your own personal hand holding taken in front of our #sshhi banner. You can upload it to social media to join the world wide campaign, just use the hashtag #sshhi
"i cant make the event on the 7th, but I want to get involved?"
- Great... all you need to do is take a photo on your phone of you holding hands with a member of the same sex and Tweet it or upload it to Instagram or Facebook using the hashtag #sshhi and #pridehousemcr. That will add your photo to the world wide campaign.
